When shipping perishables, chemical samples or pharmaceuticals in frozen states, having a viable alternative to dry ice is essential — it is a substance that is viewed as being hazardous in many regulatory compliance quarters.
Tempack’s Rigid Frozen Pack overcomes this and other issues, while offering a host of other preferable thermal transportation benefits in the process.
While dry ice is capable of maintaining frozen and deep-frozen temperatures for long periods, it sublimates into carbon dioxide gas. As a result, consignors need to apply very specific dangerous goods labelling and handling instructions on such shipments. Furthermore, logistics providers have to be mindful of the legal limitations placed on dry ice in aircraft cargo holds. These restrictions can easily hamper air transportation plans.
No such problems with Tempack Rigid Frozen Packs. Manufactured using high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and eutectic gel as a coolant, these hardy, temperature control bricks are able to guarantee the maintenance of negative temperatures for frozen products. Unlike water which melts at 0ºC, phase change in our Rigid Frozen Packs occurs at -21ºC, allowing frozen temperatures to be maintained over extended periods. Depending on the exterior packaging selected, they will do so with autonomy of up to 4 days.
The rigid HDPE thermal cold pack also has great tensile strength, offering excellent performance in terms of resistance to rupture and compression in the handling process. This level of protection guarantees gel resilience and stability. The relationship between the elements is mutually beneficial, with the gel itself helping the cold pack to maintain its shape. This is also a non-toxic substance that doesn’t stain, not even in the unlikely event of a rupture.
HDPE material is virtually impervious to most common chemicals, water, solvents, acids, detergents, and cleaning fluids. So in sharp contrast to disposable dry ice, it can be cleaned and reused. It is also an environmentally responsible material and is easily recyclable, helping keep non-biodegradable waste out of landfills.
In short, Tempack Rigid Frozen Packs are an important alternative to dry ice. Being much safer to handle, they are fully suitable for food transport and are approved for immediate contact. When used in conjunction with our PU isothermal shippers, these high-performance rigid frozen packs constitute the most comprehensive solution for negative-temperature cold chain logistics.
